About Keio Opencourseware (OCW)

Keio Opencourseware (Keio OCW) is open-ended educational content from Keio University's courses, including syllabi and lecture notes, made available on the Internet to support higher education. This content may be utilized by anyone free of charge for non-commercial educational purposes (*1).

The OCW project of making advanced educational material available on the Internet free of charge was launched in 2001 by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the USA. MIT OpenCourseWare (MIT OCW) currently offers 1650 courses of MIT lecture materials as a resource for user-friendly higher education throughout the world.

Keio University acts as one of the host institutions of the World Wide Web Consortium (WWW), which promotes the standardization of technology on the Internet, and has long been engaged in pioneering research and development in the field of information technology. In addition, Keio University has an ongoing program to digitize the advanced educational resources it has accumulated during its 150 years of history as the oldest private educational institution in Japan.

Recognized around the world for these activities, Keio University has begun to make available lecture materials from university courses in order to promote the international exchange of education programs.

This site has an English version and a Japanese version, and as of May 1st in 2006, 13 courses from the three faculties of Letters, Economics, and Law are available (*2). We will be adding lectures from all faculties of Keio University on a regular basis.
