This is a course designed to provide both international and Japanese students who are interested in art
from comparative culture or intercultural communication perspectives with student-centered learning
experience of Japanese art. Thus students in this course will engage in diverse activities both in and
outside of class within this multicultural student body. The activities include workshops, field trips,
and research. The goal of this workshop is to give students a firm grounding in cultural, social,
historical, and practical aspects of art in contemporary Japan.
After accumulating various experiences in Japan, students make a self-portrait in any media in 2D,
3D or as an installation.
