This course is offered in English, to third and forth year undergraduate students.
The purpose of this course is to provide a broad overview of the economic relations between the European Union (EU) and Japan. The lectures are based on Gilson, Julie, “Japan and the European Union”, Macmillan Press (in the UK), St. Martin's Press (in the USA), 2000, along with the latest information obtained from official websites and other materials. Emphasis is on the economic side of EU-Japan relations.
The topic to be discussed the following week is announced at the end of each lecture. When the topic corresponds to a chapter in Glison (2000), students must submit a report on the relevant part of the textbook, at the beginning of the next lecture. Several copies of Gilson (2000) are on reserve at the library.
Evaluation is by class participation and an essay (on a related topic of the student's choice) at the end of term.
