Grading Guidelines

Grades will be based on examinations given at the end of the spring and fall terms, a report at the end of the fall term, and participation in the discussions about each student's report.

The following are samples of questions from past exams:

* Explain the modernization process and the formation of modern Japanese identity in the context of specific historical environments. Give examples of individuals making choices and relate these choices to survival strategies and available resources.

* Briefly summarize the role the undokai plays in identity formation.

* Choose two of your classmates' reports. Briefly summarize the methods they used and their conclusions, and then evaluate their presentations and the content of their reports.
